ECOTOXICOLOGICAL TEST
Ecotoxicity of waste, in keeping with requirements of Decree No. 294/2005 Coll. and ecotoxicity as a hazard criterion H14 "ecotoxicity", as defined in requirements of Decree No. 376/2001 Coll., is identified from acute toxicity tests made on water eluates of a given waste or on water solution of the tested substance.
Our laboratory specialises in assessments of the following organisms:
- freshwater fishes (asphyxiation, length of test: 96 hours)
Identifying acute lethal toxicity of substances for freshwater fishes [Brachydanio rerio Hamilton-Buchanan (Teleostei, Cyprinidae)] - test for Poecilia reticulata - Part 2: Semi-static method: ČSN EN ISO 7346-2 standard - freshwater invertebrates (influence on mobility, asphyxiation, length of test: 48 h)
Determination of the inhibition of the mobility of Daphnia magna Straus (Cladocera, Crustacea) – Test for acute toxicity: ČSN EN ISO 6341 standard - freshwater algae (influence on culture growth parameters, length of test: minimum 72 h)
Quality of water – Test for the inhibition of the growth of freshwater green algae: ČSN EN ISO 8692 standard - higher plants (germinating capacity, length of test: 72 h)
Test on the seeds of white mustard (Sinapis alba): Appendix 1 of the Guideline of the Waste Department of the Czech Ministry of the Environment to determine ecotoxicity of waste, Věstník MŽP (Ministry Official Gazette) April 2007, volume XVII, chapter 4
Our laboratory is also an accredited user workplace in respect to Act No. 246/1992 Coll., on the protection of animals against maltreatment.
Tests are made on solid samples in a water eluate (prepared according to ČSN EN 12457-4 standard). As bigger volumes of eluate are necessary, especially when testing fishes, samples of at least 1 kg are recommended.
When making tests on liquid samples (which are taken as water eluates) the recommended volume for a sample is at least 5 litres.
Ecotoxicity tests are more demanding than other usual analytic methods. The preparation of an eluate takes 24 hours, a fish test then takes 96 hours. Because of this, as a standard, you can receive the results between 2 and 4 weeks.
